When it pays off

How pet health insurance can help.

Insurance is not a must, but in these situations it can be a real relief:

Emergencies

Accidents, poisoning or sudden illness — emergency treatment in particular can lead to high costs.

Chronic conditions

Diabetes, allergies or joint problems often accompany a pet for years, with correspondingly long-term costs.

Surgery & dental treatment

Surgical procedures and extensive dental treatment can be planned, and are well covered with insurance.

Before you sign

What to look out for.

Pet health insurance policies differ considerably. Keeping a few points in mind makes it easier to find the right tariff:

  • Take out cover early: the younger and healthier the pet, the lower the premiums, and the fewer exclusions for pre-existing conditions.
  • Compare tariffs: the scope of cover, annual limits and excess are worth a closer look.
  • Check the contract details: pay attention to waiting periods, age limits and exactly which services are included.
  • Surgery cover vs. full cover: some tariffs cover only operations, others also include preventive care and outpatient treatment.

Please note: we are happy to advise you on the medical aspects — choosing a specific tariff is a personal decision that you make independently.

Direct billing — with an assignment of claims

Direct billing is well established with three pet health insurers: Agila, Barmenia and balunos. A signed assignment of claims is always required. Then we bill the treatment costs directly with your insurer. With all other insurers, you settle our invoice yourself first and submit it for reimbursement to your insurer afterwards.

With Barmenia we have a special situation that other insurers don't offer: Raban Esser is our dedicated Barmenia agency partner. He knows our practice and supports you personally, from choosing the right tariff and the application through to handling a claim. Especially for new Barmenia customers, this is valuable, personal support.

For direct billing we always need a signed assignment of claims.

Good to know

The assignment of claims — simply explained.

What is an assignment of claims?

With an assignment of claims you, as the claimant, transfer your insurance entitlements to us as the practice. This simplifies billing: we settle the costs directly with your pet health insurer. A signed assignment of claims is always required for direct billing at our practice.

What conditions must be met?

Your insurance policy must in principle permit assignments, and the services billed must be covered by your contract. If in doubt, please clarify this in advance directly with your insurer.

What happens if the insurer does not pay?

As the pet owner you remain obliged to pay in full if, contrary to expectations, your insurer makes no payment or only a partial payment. Any invoice that then remains outstanding must be settled within 14 days. Additional reports or administrative documentation may incur small extra costs.

How do I submit the assignment of claims?

The easiest way is to complete the assignment of claims online in advance, via the form at termin.vet/cremlingen. That way it is already on file for your appointment. Of course, you can also fill in the form at the practice.
