Why we usually do not offer routine home visits
This stance may sound unusual, but it is important to us because it grew out of practice experience and ultimately benefits your pet:
Diagnostics requires equipment. Real help for many ailments starts with a good examination. At the practice, X-ray, ultrasound, microscope, laboratory and the OR are immediately available. On a home visit, we only have what fits in the bag, a reliable diagnosis is much harder.
Animals are often harder to treat at home. Many dogs and cats experience their home as territory they defend, especially when in pain. In the calm, professional environment of the practice the examination is typically quieter and less stressful.
We don't want to offer a band-aid home visit. If we came without being able to help reliably, you would end up making the trip twice, and your pet would be stressed twice. We therefore almost always recommend the way to the practice.
The important exception: end-of-life care at home
When your dog or cat needs to say goodbye after a long, beautiful life, that moment should be as gentle as possible. By special request we come to your home for end-of-life care (euthanasia), in the surroundings your pet loves most, surrounded by their closest people.
We take our time, walk you through the process calmly, and stay afterwards as long as you need us. If you would like to start the conversation. Please call us on 05306 / 5722841. More background on accompaniment and grief on our page End-of-life care.
What else we offer — when getting to the practice is hard
For many situations where you legitimately cannot come to the practice, there are better alternatives than a home visit:
If it's a real emergency
In real emergencies, the practice is almost always the fastest and safest solution, all means are immediately available, from OR to oxygen to the lab. Outside our consulting hours you reach our veterinary emergency service via 05306 / 5722841. More details on our emergency page.
